UBS Arena Amplifies Fan Experiences with JBL

Opened in 2021, UBS Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Long Island, New York. Home to the NHL’s New York Islanders, UBS Arena has a capacity of 19,000 and hosts basketball games, concerts, corporate events and professional wrestling broadcasts in addition to Islanders’ home games. To provide world-class audio experiences for fans and attendees of a wide range of events, the newly constructed facility required a state-of-the-art arena audio solution.

The solution—designed by consultant group Wrightson, Johnson, Haddon & Williams, Inc. and installed by integrators Diversified—consists of over 950 JBL loudspeakers, including eight main bowl arrays of JBL VTX A12 speakers and S28 subwoofers, and a variety of PD Series, AWC Series, VRX Series, Series loudspeakers in balcony, concourse, back-of-house and delay positions. The entire system is powered by Crown I-Tech Series and DCi Series amplifiers, with network control and signal processing provided by BSS Soundweb London devices.

Warstic Bat Company Enhances Flagship Store and Headquarters with JBL Professional and Crown Audio

DALLAS—Baseball bat company Warstic Sports, Inc. recently opened its state-of-the-art headquarters and retail space in Dallas, which features a comprehensive networked audio system from HARMAN Professional Solutions.

Founded by former baseball player and entrepreneur Ben Jenkins in 2011, Warstic specializes in state-of-the-art metal bats and customizable wood bats, along with batting gloves, fielding gloves and other baseball and softball accessories. In 2016, four-time All-Star second baseman Ian Kinsler and musician Jack White became co-owners alongside Jenkins, and in November 2021 the company officially opened its flagship store and headquarters in Dallas. In addition to a retail space and batting cage area, the facility also features a cafe, a conference space known as the War Room, and a live performance space in the basement. To meet Warstic’s current needs and anticipate future plans for the space, HARMAN Professional Solutions provided design assistance and installation guidance for the highly versatile audio system featuring JBL Professional, Crown, BSS and Soundcraft solutions.

“The building itself is not only our central office but also a retail store, batting cage, speaking and event center, factory, coffee shop and a place for live music,” said Christine Edgington, President, Warstic Sports, Inc. “There are so many components packed into our 10k foot space. We started the process with a detailed explanation of how we would be utilizing all of the different spaces, and HARMAN matched our needs with their extensive list of products.”

“Each space had its own individual needs as far as audio was concerned,” added Nick Mourn, Production Application Support Specialist, HARMAN Professional Solutions. “What made this installation unique was that Warstic wanted each space to share the same audio for things like background music, as well as the option for each space to have its own audio source. There’s a considerable amount of flexibility in the design so that as time goes on, the company will have an easier time launching future plans and projects. The retail space has a big projection screen, for example, and the plan is to eventually be able to play things on the screen and have the video’s sound run through the audio system just within the retail space. So this design was all about maximum flexibility without making it too complex.”

The retail space features JBL Control 65 P/T compact full-range pendant speakers with Radiation Boundary Integration technology, ensuring immersive background music, legible communications and wide coverage throughout the spaces. A Crown DCi 4|600N amplifier with BLU link and DriveCore technology provides power to the Control 65 speakers in the retail space, cafe and War Room.

The batting cage space required a more dexterous audio design to both maintain audible sound during batting sessions and provide full-range live sound for acoustic shows, events and classes planned for the space. The area consists of JBL AM7212/95 two-way loudspeakers, featuring a rotatable horn and waveguide for versatile placement and coverage, as well as JBL Control 31 two-way monitor speakers for additional monitoring during shows or outdoor events. A Crown DCi 2|1250N amplifier powers the speakers, and a Soundcraft Ui24R digital mixer offers simple wireless audio control for Warstic staff.

“The AM7212/95 is a higher-output speaker compared to the pendant style used in the other spaces,” added Mourn. “The reason behind this is not only for music playback purposes, but also when they start to do batting workshops and even small concerts in that space, the speakers can operate as a true sound reinforcement system.”

The basement is an intimate, speakeasy-style live music area similar to the stages found in Jack White’s Third Man Records locations in Nashville, Detroit and London, all of which feature HARMAN audio systems. This space features JBL AM7215/26 high-power loudspeakers and ASB6128 high-power subwoofers for impactful dynamics and complete coverage for the entire audience. Additionally, JBL SRX812P self-powered speakers and SRX818SP subwoofers offer pristine and concentrated onstage monitoring, and both can also be used as a portable sound system for pop-up or outdoor events.

“We wanted the equipment in the stage area to make a statement,,” said Edgington. “The JBL speakers provide massive sound that explodes off the stage and looks great while doing so. Across the board, the sound quality is beyond our wildest expectations in every corner of the building.”

For the stage’s backend, a Crown DCi 4|1250ND amplifier provides ample power and a Soundcraft Vi1000 digital mixing console with a Soundcraft Vi Stagebox allows for easy and accurate sound mixing across more than 100 available inputs. Finally, JBL Control 65 P/T speakers powered by a Crown DCi 2|600N provide background audio for the basement.

For the entire facility, a BSS BLU-101 signal processor ensures high-bandwidth processing and low-latency audio. BSS BLU-BIB input expanders in each area also allow for individual inputs in any part of the facility for events or live shows. Finally, BSS EC-8BV wall-mount controllers in each area provide easy-to-use and responsive audio and input control, which in turn allows for each area to operate and play different audio independently from one another.

Warstic celebrated its opening with a surprise performance by Jack White, and the cutting-edge audio system created an inviting and engaging experience for new visitors and customers.

“It was a very exciting night; Jack and the band played a great set and we got a lot of compliments on how good it sounded, especially given that the space is extremely small,” said Mourn. “We look forward to seeing where Warstic takes this system from here.”

RS Public Company Limited Upgrades Rose Hall Event Venue With HARMAN Audio Solutions

BANGKOK, Thailand—To provide pristine sound and flexibility for the Rose Hall event venue at the headquarters of RS Public Company Limited Mahajak Development Co. Ltd. deployed a cutting-edge HARMAN Professional audio solution.

One of Thailand’s top media businesses, RS Public Company Limited has had a significant influence on Thai entertainment culture since 1982. When hosting concerts, radio shows, television events and more, the company uses the 480-square meter Rose Hall located at its headquarters. To accommodate the needs of modern productions, the company requested a flexible, cutting-edge audio system that could easily adapt to a myriad of events.

A spokesperson for Mahajak Development Co. Ltd said that the installation team was confident that HARMAN’s audio solutions would deliver impactful sound for all types of events. The team selected a range of JBL Professional, Soundcraft and dbx solutions to provide impactful sound, deliver maximum coverage and seamlessly handle a large number of channels.

To provide clear, full-range sound with wide coverage for the stage area, Mahajak installed JBL SRX815P loudspeakers and SRX818SP subwoofers. With built-in DriveCore Technology and JBL-engineered presets, these speakers allow for quick setup and easy programming to suit any type of event hosted in the Rose Hall. For onstage monitors and delay speakers, the JBL SRX812P offers up to 136 dB of output and Differential Drive transducers for full dynamic range in a compact design.

To provide seamless control over the loudspeakers, Mahajak installed a dbx DriveRack VENU360 complete loudspeaker management system. With an improved AutoEQ algorithm and enhanced feedback elimination, the VENU360 provides lightning-fast and consistently high-quality processing power. Finally, the Soundcraft Si Impact 40-input Digital Mixing Console offers pinpoint control and remote mixing via the Soundcraft ViSi Remote iPad App for quick and simple audio programming. Outside of the hall, in the venue’s pre-function room, Mahajak installed JBL Control 14C/T ceiling speakers powered by a JBL Commerical CSMA 2120 mixer-amplifier for premium background audio.

James Cook University Connects Research, Innovation and Education Using HARMAN Professional Solutions

CAIRNS, Australia—To create an innovative space for industry experts to effectively interact and communicate with students, Videopro collaborated with HARMAN Professional Solutions to outfit James Cook University’s new JCU Ideas Lab with a cutting-edge networked AV solution.

Established in 1970, James Cook University (JCU) has campuses in Cairns, Townsville, Singapore, and Brisbane, as well as research and learning sites in Mackay, Mount Isa, Rockhampton, and Thursday Island. JCU recently completed its new $30 million facility, the JCU Ideas Lab, creating a place for researchers, entrepreneurs and students to share ideas and innovate together. The facility houses an atrium, meeting rooms, electronics labs, workshops and teaching spaces to create, prototype, test, develop and scale innovative technologies, products, and business concepts, including a Narrow-band Internet of Things laboratory (NB-IoT). To ensure a seamless and collaborative creative environment, JCU hired Videopro to outfit the Ideas Lab with a complete HARMAN Professional Solutions networked AV system consisting of JBL loudspeakers and AMX control systems.

“The client visualised an interactive learning space where students, lecturers and industry experts could come together,” said Scott Maunsell and Ben Thompson, Videopro. “The design called for a centralised AV distribution and control system, which was most appropriate due to the many smaller spaces in the facility. To bring the client’s vision to life, we selected HARMAN AV equipment. JCU are a long-term AMX partner so AMX solutions were the natural fit for the complex video and control requirements. JBL pendant speakers worked ideally for the open ceiling architecture making HARMAN our first choice for the JCU Ideas Lab.”

In the meeting rooms, Videopro installed AMX Acendo Vibe conferencing soundbars, which feature JBL speakers and microphones for clear audio communication. AMX Metreau Ethernet keypads provide seamless control in each of the JCU Ideas Lab’s meeting rooms, ideation spaces, labs and classroom student collaboration pods. Videopro also outfitted the University with AMX Modero G5 tabletop touch panels to provide an intuitive user interface for more complex meeting rooms, labs and the atrium videowall and audio system.

Minimising the challenges of locating bulky AV equipment in the architecturally designed teaching spaces whilst providing excellent servicability for the JCU AV team, two AMX Enova DGX Digital Media Switchers located in the second-floor comms room manage all video to and from AMX 4K DXLink transmitters and receivers located at sources and displays throughout the facility. AMX 4K DXLink wallplate transmitters provide connectivity for guest devices whilst AMX Netlinx NX Series integrated controllers are the backbone of the solution, integrating the building’s advanced AV technologies into a single system. To ensure exceptional sound quality across the entire facility, the team outfitted the JCU Ideas Lab with a mix of JBL speakers including Control 60 Series pendants powered by JBL Commercial Series amplifiers and C2PS powered models.

“During my time at JCU, I have been involved with twenty new building projects,” said Gary Gulliford, Manger, Videoconferencing and Audiovisual Services at James Cook University. “The JCU Ideas Lab was one of the most rewarding projects so far. Yeomkwang Church Enhances the Worship Experience With a Complete HARMAN Professional Solutions Audio System

GEOJE, South Korea—To deliver clear, powerful sound during its services, Yeomkwang Church recently partnered with TechDataPS Co., Ltd. to install a state-of-the-art HARMAN Professional Solutions audio system.

Founded in 1946, Yeomkwang Church belongs to the Presbyterian Church of Korea. One of the oldest Christian houses of worship in Geoje—which is located in South Gyeongsang province—Yeomkwang Church is a massive 117,790 square-foot facility that consists of a Vision Center and a main hall. The church recently decided to upgrade their existing sound system with a modern solution capable of delivering crystal-clear sermons and musical performances. The church hired TechDataPS Co., Ltd. to design and implement an end-to-end sound system with enhanced sound quality and ease of use. To meet the client’s requirements and stay within budget, TechDataPS selected a range of advanced JBL speakers, Soundcraft mixers, Crown power amplifiers, dbx processors, and AKG microphones.

Throughout the venue, TechDataPS installed a range of JBL professional speakers. Versatile JBL VT4886 loudspeakers, high-powered AM7215/64 loudspeakers and compact VT4883 subwoofers provide crystal-clear sound in the main hall. Chosen for its compact design, TechDataPS fitted a VTX M20 as the pastor monitor speaker and selected a JRX212 as the stage monitor speaker. For the choir, a CBT50LA-1 loudspeaker was installed to provide highly directional sound, while an AC18/26 loudspeaker was introduced in the upper balcony to provide maximum bandwidth. Additionally, a CONTROL 14C/T full-range ceiling speaker was fitted in the baby room so families, children and their caretakers can still experience sermons and the choir.

The setup also features Soundcraft Vi1000 mixing consoles and Vi Stageboxes, which are routed to front-of-house via redundant analog and digital AES/EBU connections to ensure reliable audio. The system is powered by Crown IT4x3500HDS, DCi 2|600N, and DCi 8|300N amplifiers and is networked using BSS BLU Link technology, a high-bandwidth, low-latency audio bus that operates via AES.

To ensure crystal-clear audio with even distribution, the speakers were configured using dbx equalization and speaker management systems. At the church’s request, TechDataPS provided dbx PMC16 personal monitor systems, which enable performers to create their own custom monitor mixes using up to 16 channels of audio. The system is powered by Crown IT4x3500HD and DCi 2|600N amplifiers via BLU Link integration.

To deliver exceptional speech and vocal clarity, TechDataPS equipped the main hall of the church with world-class AKG microphones. This setup included an AKG C214 large-diaphragm condenser microphone for the choir, a C214 for stage rigging, a Drum Set Session I microphone package, a PZM6 D high-performance hemispherical boundary layer microphone and D5 CS handheld microphones.

TechDataPS installed JBL AM5215/95/ASB6115 loudspeakers and subwoofers to deliver full-range sound throughout the middle chapel. An EON612 multipurpose self-powered PA speaker was installed as the pastor monitor speaker, and a JRX212 was chosen as the stage monitor. Soundcraft Si Impact mixing consoles control the system, which is powered by Crown CDi DriveCcore 4|600 and CDi DriveCore 2|1200 power amplifiers.

The other rooms of the church were fitted with JBL EON615 speakers and Soundcraft Signature and EPM Series consoles. JBL Control 14C/T speakers were installed in the café for background music and announcements. The system is controlled using a Soundcraft EPM6 mixer, and powered by Crown XLi800 amplifiers.

LUVEL Gangdong Creates Unforgettable Wedding Memories With Pristine Audio From HARMAN Professional Solutions

SEOUL, South Korea—To enhance the elegant atmosphere for weddings at LUVEL Gangdong with crystal-clear audio for speech and music, TechDataPS Co., Ltd. recently supplied the venue with an end-to-end HARMAN Professional Solutions audio system.

One of several venues owned by Apelgamo Wedding & Party, LUVEL Gangdong is an upscale wedding hall located on the 35th and 36th floors of East Central Tower in Seoul’s Gangdong district. Featuring design elements and decor reminiscent of French formal gardens, the venue’s wedding hall can accommodate 160 guests, while the reception hall can host up to 500. To create unforgettable experiences for the betrothed and their guests, LUVEL Gangdong required a high-quality yet user-friendly audio system capable of providing powerful and clear sound reinforcement for speech and music. To achieve these goals, TechDataPS outfitted LUVEL Gangdong with an end-to-end HARMAN audio system consisting of JBL, Crown, Soundcraft, Lexicon, dbx, BSS and AKG solutions.

According to TechData, their client placed a high value on sound quality and clarity, and requested a solution that could be integrated harmoniously with the interior of the wedding hall. Collaborating with an interior design company from start to finish, TechData had the loudspeakers custom-painted and installed mounting brackets separately to make the audio system blend in seamlessly with the interior.

To achieve clear, intelligible speech and music amplification, TechData PS deployed a variety of specialized JBL loudspeakers throughout the venue. JBL CBT 70J-1, CBT 70JE-1 and CBT 50LA-1 line array column loudspeakers provide main sound reinforcement with precise directivity and focused coverage. JBL Control 25AV, Control 25AV-WH and Control 23-1 background/foreground loudspeakers supply additional coverage throughout the venue, while JBL 305P MKII studio monitors and AKG K612 PRO headphones give staff an accurate reference for mixing.

TechData selected Crown CDi 4000, CDi 1000, CDi DriveCore 4|300 and XLi800 amplifiers to power the speakers, along with a dbx DriveRack VENU360 loudspeaker management system for sound enhancement, feedback suppression and mobile control. Soundcraft Si Expression 2, EPM8 and EPM6 mixing consoles offer powerful mixing capabilities with intuitive operation and flexibility for events of any size. TechData supplemented the system with a Lexicon MX400XL effects processor for enhancing musical performances.

To capture high-quality audio for voices and instruments alike, TechData supplied LUVEL Gangdong with an assortment of specialized AKG microphones. The AKG CGN521 STS professional tabletop microphone set ensures ultra-clear sound for main speakers such as masters of ceremonies and wedding officiants, and features a versatile switch for push-to-talk or push-to-mute operation. AKG P5 S dynamic vocal microphones deliver high intelligibility for speech and singing, with a convenient on/off switch to avoid extraneous noise when not in use. AKG C516 ML miniature instrument microphones capture acoustic instruments with clear and full sound, thanks to a focused cardioid pickup pattern, flexible shockmount with integrated clip, and a rugged gooseneck for accurate positioning.TechData also supplied the venue with BSS AR-133 active DI boxes for interfacing with keyboards, guitars and other electric instruments.

Royal China Elevates Nightlife in Kolkata with JBL Professional Networked Audio System

KOLKATA, India—Sighapandi Electronics recently equipped Royal China with a class-leading JBL Professional networked audio system to deliver exceptional audio in the restaurant and nightclub areas.

Royal China is a fine dining restaurant in Kolkata, India. The restaurant serves authentic Cantonese cuisine in a chic and upscale environment. Located in the Forum Courtyard Mall, Royal China also features a small nightclub in addition to the restaurant. During the design phase, the owners of Royal China recognized that the restaurant needed a flexible loudspeaker system that offered a clear, high quality sound. However, due to the low ceilings in the venue, they required a compact solution that would not detract from the décor. The owners of Royal China worked with Sighapandi Electronics to install a JBL Professional network audio system featuring JBL loudspeakers, JBL and Crown amplifiers and a BSS signal processor.

“The ceiling height of nine feet was a big challenge,” said Jagjeet Singh Bhatti, Sighapandit Electronics. “We obviously had to be very careful about reflections in the live room and ensure that the direct-to-reverberant sound ratio was kept high for every audience member.”

Sighapandi Electronics chose four JBL AM7212/95 loudspeakers with two JBL ASB6125 subwoofers for the club area. These lightweight, high-powered speakers provide excellent coverage in a variety of patterns and have high-slope passive networks to minimize band overlap. Sighapandi Electronics also designed brackets for the JBL AM7212/95 loudspeakers, as there was no option to fly the speakers with such a low ceiling.

In the restaurant, the team installed twelve JBL 8128 in-ceiling loudspeakers along with four JBL 8124 in-ceiling loudspeakers. These full range high fidelity speakers deliver impressive output while using minimal amplifier power.

The system was powered by a BSS BLU50 signal processor, which features configurable signal processing, logic processing and a BLU link digital audio bus. Additionally, the team installed two Crown XTI 6002 Amplifiers in the club, as well as one JBL Libra 500 Amplifier and one JBL Libra 250 Amplifier in the restaurant. These amplifiers provide user control over frequency, gain and filter type for system-specific tuning.

“The speakers that were suggested initially were huge,” said Rishi Bajoria, owner of Royal China. “Given the fact that there was a space constraint, we asked Singhpandit Electronics to take another look at the design. They came back to us with a new design using slightly smaller speakers and high fidelity sound. When we turned the system on, we were amazed.”

This project was collaborated together with AV system integrator, Eastern Global Sdn.Bhd. Kota Kinabalu Marriott Hotel is a premium five-star resort located at The Waterfront Entertainment Center on the coast of the South China Sea. Featuring full spa services, fine-dining dining outlets, and show-stopping performances, Kota Kinabalu Marriott is an idyllic entertainment destination in the “Land Below The Wind”. Known for hosting opulent events held in the Grand Ballroom, Kota Kinabalu Marriott hired Mahajak Trio to install an industry-leading audio system capable of delivering world-class sound throughout the resort.

The Solution:

Mahajak Trio designed a complete HARMAN Professional Solutions audio system made up of JBL Professional Loudspeakers, JBL Commercial Power Amplifiers, AKG Microphones and BSS Signal Processors. Kota Kinabalu Marriott’s new audio system utilizes self-powered JBL SRX815P and PRX812W Loudspeakers, as well as JBL PRX818XLF Subwoofers for stunning sound quality in the Grand Ballroom. Guests can enjoy performances anywhere on the premises with JBL Control 16C/T, Control 47C/T, 8124 and 8138 In-Ceiling Loudspeakers, powered by JBL Commercial CSA 140Z and CSA 1300Z Single-Channel Power Amplifiers.

The system can be easily controlled with the JBL CSR-V remote volume control and easily distributed using BSS BLU-160 Signal Processors, BSS Analog Input Card, BSS BLU-BOB2 Break Out Box and BSS Ethernet Controllers. Kota Kinabalu Marriott was also outfitted with a pair of JBL LSR305 2-Way Studio Monitors for precise reference monitoring. Speakers and performers in the Grand Ballroom sound crystal-clear thanks to the AKG D5 and WMS470 D5 Handheld Microphones, AKG CGN331 E Gooseneck Microphone, and AKG CS3 BU Conference Base Unit paired with AKG CS3 DU 30 Delegate and CS3 CU 30 Chairman Microphones.

The Opportunity:

Founded in 1945, Kasikornbank is one of the largest commercial banks in Thailand, operating more than 1,100 branch locations throughout the nation. To accommodate its rapid growth, Kasikornbank recently relocated its headquarters to a new 11-story office building in downtown Bangkok.

Kasikornbank hired AV integrator Mahajak Development to design and install a state-of-the-art networked audio system that would provide more than 100 meeting rooms with high-quality audio and intuitive control.

The Solution:

In order to ensure professional audio during meetings and conferences at the new facility, Mahajak Development selected a comprehensive HARMAN networked audio solution consisting of JBL speakers, Crown amplifiers, BSS audio processors and AMX control systems.

p.The audio system installed by Mahajak Development includes JBL Control Series speakers, which provide superior intelligibility and optimum audio coverage in Kasikornbank’s conference rooms. The Control Series leverages JBL’s exclusive Radiation Boundary Integration technology to provide consistent and wide coverage sound throughout the listening area. The system is powered by Crown CDi Series and ComTech DriveCore amplifiers.

For mixing of sources and zones, Mahajak Development installed eight-channel Crown 28M pre-amplifier/mixers and JBL CSMA1120 four-channel mixer/amplifiers, which feature a sleek and industrial design for commercial sound applications. Throughout the facility, the audio is networked and configured via BSS Soundweb London BLU-100 and BLU-50 signal processors. The BLU-50 offers a fixed configuration options of four inputs and four outputs, configurable signal processing, logic processing and BLU link. The BSS BLU100 offers a fixed configuration of 12 inputs and 8 outputs of configurable signal processing and a high bandwidth, fault tolerant digital audio bus. The BLU-100 also features open architecture that is fully configurable through HiQnet™ London Architect, offering a rich palette of processing and logic objects and a drag and drop method of configuration.

Mahajak built the entire system around the AMX NetLinx® NX Series Integrated Controller, which provides intuitive operation of the sophisticated AV system, as well as a scalable platform for the future by combining high performance, backward compatibility and extensive network security features. Finally, AMX ControlPads enable local control of the volume levels in each room via a built-in Ethernet port, which can be configured to control volume, input selection, and power for a wide range of A/V devices.

Luxurious convention center equips five ballrooms and lobby with JBL Professional, dbx, Soundcraft and Martin solutions to deliver a premium guest experience

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam—Opened in November 2016, the Capella Gallery Hall is an upscale convention center in downtown Ho Chi Minh City. Featuring striking modern architecture and gorgeous interior design, the multifunctional space hosts a wide variety of events, ranging from luxurious weddings and private parties to international business conferences and industry conventions.

To ensure a world-class guest experience in each of its five large ballrooms and main lobby, the Capella Gallery Hall hired systems integrator Ba Sao Investment to implement a complete HARMAN AV solution consisting of JBL speakers, Soundcraft mixing consoles, a dbx speaker management system and a Martin lighting rig.

The Martin RUSH Multibeam 2 is a versatile fixture, providing powerful mid-air effects with its ten individually controlled long-throw beams. With fifteen gobos and seven colors, the compact and energy-efficient Martin RUSH Wizard delivers a large variety of dance-floor looks. The Martin M-Touch enables easy DMX control of the Martin RUSH lighting fixtures, allowing the staff to easily design unique looks to suit each event’s needs.
